Robert "Bob" Kuhn

Artist

Bob Kuhn was born in 1920 in Buffalo, New York. His father took him to the zoo for the first time when he was six and that was the beginning of his passion for wildlife. He then started drawing the animals whenever he could get to the zoo. The more he grew, the more he admired Paul Bransom's work (the dean of wildlife art and the founder of the Society of Animal Artists). After sending Mr. Bransom some of his sketches, Mr. Bransom encouraged him to study the animals and put down what he saw.

After his formal education at Brooklyn's Pratt Institute, Bob spent twenty-five years as a commercial illustrator. During this time his work graced the covers of every major sporting magazine in the country. In the sixties Bob turned his attention to painting full time.

Bob never wanted to paint anything but wildlife, and particularly large animals. Big game animals fascinate him and Africa is his favorite place to be. It is here that he watches and paints lions, tigers, elephants and buffalo.

Bob and his wife, Libby, live in Connecticut. He finds it to be a peaceful and beautiful place to pursue his talent of painting big game. His paintings can be found in major galleries and in many private collections. He has also had books published on his work.
